The Sound Assistant works as a member of the run crew & works closely with the Sound Supervisor to execute designs at the Theater Tent. The Run Crew will be an integral part of the production department providing support specifically to the sound, audio, and music departments through tech and performances. The Sound Assistant reports to the Director of Production and the Sound Supervisor.
Responsibilities include:
- Be present and report on time to all scheduled shifts required including but not limited to notes calls, changeovers, tech rehearsals, previews, and performances.
- Serve as a member of the run crew for performances. Provide support in operating and programming audio equipment including operating a console. Support the lighting, audio, & props departments as needed while running shows in repertory throughout 2024 season.
- Install audio and musical equipment as part of the rotating repertory schedule and the operations of the 2024 HVSF Season.
- Maintain run of show paperwork, under the supervision of lighting/sound supervisor and stage manager.
- Work with musicians and sound supervisor to monitor and stock perishables for the audio and music departments.
- Work closely with other artists to build a safe, respectful, and anti-racist backstage environment.
- Practice and promote multi-cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Responsible for safety, upkeep, and operations of all HVSF workspaces and tools under the supervision of the Director of Production, Facilities Manager.
Qualifications:
- Background, degree or equivalent experience in technical theater, with a focus on sound. Basic understanding and experience with sound consoles, audio equipment, and electrical & ladder
safety.
- Complete understanding of backstage etiquette. A working knowledge of technical theatre practices.
- Valid Drivers’ license and clean DMV record, and being comfortable driving with passengers.
- HVSF requires all staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
- This position is physical in nature and required to work outdoors. The ability to climb ladders, lifts, reach above head. Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds and work outside, exposed to the elements.
- All staff will be required to assist in implementing HVSF’s new COVID-19 Safety Plan, follow all health and safety protocols including social distancing, proper mask wearing, and COVID testing provided by HVSF.
This is a seasonal position paid $19 per hour / $760 per week May 27 through September 1, 2024. Nights and weekends required. Housing and transportation provided.
