Job Title: Production Stage Manager (PSM) BIG Apple Circus

Job Summary:

The Production Stage Manager (PSM) is responsible for overseeing all stage management functions and coordinating the technical and artistic aspects of a production from rehearsals to the final performance. The PSM ensures the smooth execution of the show, manages communication between the creative and technical teams, and serves as the central point of contact during rehearsals and performances.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Pre-Production and Planning:

• Collaborate with the director, production manager, and creative teams to understand the artistic vision and technical requirements.
• Develop and maintain the production schedule in coordination with the production manager.
• Assist or lead production meetings and maintain detailed notes on action items, design updates, and technical needs.

• Coordinate and manage rehearsal schedules, ensuring all departments are aligned.
• Prepare the rehearsal room, including script and blocking notes, props, and any necessary equipment.
• Maintain prompt books with detailed blocking, cues, and script changes.
• Communicate with actors, designers, and technical teams about schedules, rehearsal notes, and production changes.

• Lead technical rehearsals, ensuring all cues for lighting, sound, and set changes are correct and synchronized.
• Work closely with the technical departments, lighting, sound, and costume teams to ensure a seamless transition into the performance phase.
• Manage stage crew and run-throughs for scene changes, props, and other technical aspects.

• Call all cues (lighting, sound, projections, etc.) during performances, ensuring precise timing and coordination.
• Oversee the stage management team and run crew during each performance.
• Ensure the safety of performers and crew during rehearsals and performances.
• Manage performance reports, noting any technical issues or adjustments needed for future shows.

• Coordinate post-show evaluations and gather feedback from the creative and technical teams.
• Assist with strike and wrap-up operations at the end of the production run.
• Compile a production report for the archives, including blocking, technical cues, and any other pertinent show documentation.

Key Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a stage manager or production stage manager in live theater or performance environments.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with theatrical equipment, stage operations, lighting, sound, and rigging.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Proficiency in prompt book creation and calling cues during performances.
• Understanding of union and non-union production environments (a plus, depending on the production).

Additional Skills:

• Experience working with large, technically complex productions.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various departments.
• Ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the production.
• Familiarity with health and safety procedures in a performance environment.
