DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is seeking a House Manager who possesses excellent customer service skills, is an efficient problem solver, and is comfortable leading a team of associates and volunteers. An ideal candidate will have experience in volunteer relations and prior house or stage management experience.

Duties include oversight of all front of house operations, management of volunteer corps, maintenance and inventory of gift shop and concessions, guidance of Sales Representatives, and oversight of Box Office operations during performances.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for a positive patron experience, including general safety, efficient ticket processing, and overall customer service satisfaction.

• Oversee Box Office Sales Representatives and problem-solve potential ticketing/patron issues.

• Responsible for handling cash and completing End of Day procedures at the conclusion of each performance day, utilizing our ticketing software: Theatre Manager.

• Responsible for physical oversight of the public areas for events, including knowledge of the theater space, parking lot, patio, restrooms, and other public areas.

• Report necessary clean-up and repairs, while taking care of minor needs as they arise.

• Assist in and oversee clean-up and end-of-day at the conclusion of performances.

• Act as liaison with Stage Manager in opening the house and beginning the show by communicating the status of unclaimed reservations, lines at the box office, or extenuating circumstances such as inclement weather, and determine whether to hold the curtain.

• Generate detailed House Reports, including attendance, earnings, etc.

• Take active role in managing accessibility at all events, such as removing ADA seats for wheelchair users, distributing/collecting Listening Devices, accommodating seat exchanges, etc.

• Train, assign, and oversee Volunteers and their duties including ticket scanning, concessions, etc.

• This position works non-standard hours and flexibility in schedule is required. Shifts are generally 5:00pm – 11:30pm Tuesday – Friday and 11:00am – 5:00pm on weekends, weekday matinee performances, and on an as-needed basis.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in theatrical settings, supervisory experience preferred

• Ability to work night and weekend events as needed

• Excellent communication and customer service skills

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to diffuse tense situations while maintaining a positive environment for patrons

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Computer literacy, with ticketing software experience preferred

COMPENSATION:

This is a seasonal, part-time opportunity starting in May 2024 and ending with our season in December 2024 requiring weekend and evening availability and paid $18.50 per hour.
