CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

Must be 18 or older to audition.

Bat Boy (Edgar) - Lead, Tenor. Seeking male, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 18-early 20s. Open to all ethnicities.

Half boy/Half bat. Starts as an innocent and afraid, sometimes dangerous and rabid, animal but grows into an intelligent and insightful being. Craves acceptance, love, and family, while fighting their animal instinct for blood, but ultimately becomes heartbroken when learning that their love, Shelley, is their sister, and they have their own Sweeney Todd moment - Bat Boy turns to rage and revenge. A strong commanding vocalist is a must with a deep understanding of acting and can move very well. A true triple threat. Must be willing to climb. Needs to be able to do a British accent.

Shelley Parker - Lead, Soprano. Seeking female, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 18-early 20s. Open to all ethnicities.
The Parkers’ rebellious daughter who has the innocence and naivety that a teenager often does, with plenty of spunk and great comedic timing. Starts as a spoiled brat who will do anything to impress her boyfriend, Rick, but ultimately falls in love with Bat Boy (Edgar), willing to give up everything for them, and seeks true love (unbeknownst to her that Bat Boy is her brother). Performer must have great vocal skills, strong acting and an endearing, youthful presence, with good movement skills. A triple threat.

Meredith Parker - Lead, Mezzo-Soprano. Seeking female, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 30s-50s. Open to all ethnicities.
A loving mother, and a true caregiver, with a traumatic past. Meredith portrays the “perfect housewife” by masking her emotions and trauma, to please others in her home and town, and potentially herself, to pretend her own guilt and unhappiness doesn’t exist. Guilted and ashamed by her past, Meredith is both a victim and player in this tragedy. Actor must be a strong vocalist with a powerful belt and excellent acting skills.

Dr. Thomas Parker - Lead, Tenor. Seeking male, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 30s-50s. Open to all ethnicities.

The town veterinarian, married to Meredith and father of Shelley, who seeks to live a “perfect” life with his family. In a loveless marriage due to his own past mistakes, Dr. Parker’s desperation for love from Meredith causes him to go into a diabolical madness, even so far as to murder, persuaded by the evil voices in his head. Jealous, manipulative, and complicated, the actor portraying Dr. Parker needs to have impeccable dramatic and comedic timing, strong vocal and dance skills, and an evil caricature aura.

Sheriff Reynolds - Featured, Baritone. Seeking male, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 30+. Open to all ethnicities.
Sheriff Reynolds is well, the Sheriff, in the town. While he may try to do the right thing, he is easily swayed by the town for his own personal gain due to the upcoming re-election for his position. Sheriff needs to be a strong vocalist and actor with great comedic timing.

Rick Taylor - Featured, Tenor. Seeking male, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 18-early 20s. Open to all ethnicities.
Shelley’s boyfriend, one of the Taylor kids that discovers Bat Boy, and one of the most prominent bullies in the town. Has a “whitely” rapped rock solo song, and the actor needs to be able to belt relatively high in that rock style. Actor needs great comedic timing and acting skills, and can play a douche.

Ron Taylor - Featured, Baritone. Seeking male, female, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 18-early 20s (can play a child). Open to all ethnicities.

Mrs. Taylor - Featured, Tenor. Seeking male, female, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 30+. Open to all ethnicities.
The mother of Rick, Ron, and Ruthie, who will stop at nothing to protect her kids. Ignorant, and willing to believe anything put in front of her, her love for her kids and their protection is misguided by propaganda and her own foolishness, leading to the murder of all three of her children. Actor must be a strong actor, with great comedic timing and good vocals.

Reverend Billie Hightower - Featured, Tenor. Seeking male, female, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming actors. 30+. Traditionally performed by a black actor.

Actor must have great comedic timing and must be a powerful singer who can perform gospel style music with strong riffs.
