Roundabout Theatre Company, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatres, seeks an energetic, personable individual to join the company as the Assistant Education Manager, School Partnerships and Experiences.

The Assistant Education Manager, School Partnerships and Experiences is a full-time, year-round position. Reporting to the Education Program Manager, School Partnerships, this role administers the day-to-day operations of Roundabout’s School Partnership programs across New York City’s five boroughs and coordinates one-off paid experiences for outside groups. Working as a member of the Teaching and Learning team, this position will be the point person for partner schools, Student Matinees, and Workshops and Add-On Experiences.

Our Teaching & Learning programs (School Partnerships, Workshops and Add-On Experiences, and Roundabout Youth Ensemble support students and teachers’ social emotional learning and a positive school climate by leveraging Roundabout productions, a theatrical teaching pedagogy, industry exposure, and experiential theatrical projects.

This is some of what the Assistant Education Manager will do:

School Partnerships:

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of residency, workshop, and Roundabout field trip activities for 18 to 20 school partners.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Artists and school contacts to develop and monitor partnership goals, annual programming, and operating budgets.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of Teaching Artists in residencies and support their partnership with educators.
  • Book partner school ticket orders in Tessitura.
  • Assist in producing onsite events including workshops, Student Matinees, IATSE Hidden Career Path Days and others as necessary.
  • Conduct site visits to school partners to observe and monitor partnership progress.
  • Collect, maintain, and review program assessment materials including numerical data and anecdotal feedback.
  • Provide regular updates to Teaching and Learning team, and wider department, about status of school partnership activities
  • Oversee the maintenance of a shared calendar of events and participant details
  • Works with the Education Program Manager, School Partnerships to manage relationships with partners at Department of Education (Office of Arts & Special Projects, Afterschool Professional Development Program, etc.) and school leaders (Principals, Arts Liaisons, etc.)
  • Maintain Tessitura constituent records for all School Partnerships
  • Communicate with teaching artists, school representatives, external clients, and Roundabout staff via phone, email, and in-person meetings to administer programming.
  • Provide administrative support to teachers and Teaching Artists, including advisement on aligning residency work with National, State, and New York City Learning Standards.
  • Support school partners after school residency programs by ordering materials and attending productions.
  • Manage Student Matinees, including the ticket request, confirmation, and Tessitura process, coordinating and executing all day-of logistics, and communicating with all necessary Roundabout staff and participating schools.


Workshops and Add-On Experiences:

  • Produce workshops, events, and institutes in collaboration with Teaching & Learning staff.
  • Collaborate with the Teaching Artist roster to produce workshops for external education groups.
  • Utilize Tessitura to track programming & constituent relationships.
  • Support facilitators and host of workshops, events, and institutes.
  • Identify opportunities to evolve programming in response to constituent needs, educational trends, and Roundabout artistic programming.
  • Create and update marketing materials in coordination with Roundabout’s Marketing department.
  • Support additional non-partner school onsite workshops as needed.
  • Liaise with Group Sales and Marketing to manage direct sale Workshops and Add-On Experience requests.
  • Coordinate and host Workshops and Add-On Experiences.
  • Book Teaching Artists to facilitate workshops.
  • Book Teaching Artists as Theatre Guides for all education groups.
  • Prepare packets of tickets, seat maps, and additional resources for education groups.


Other Program Support:

  • Coordinate the photo and video documentation of programming and events.
  • Support Roundabout Youth Ensemble, as needed.


General Office Support:

  • Utilize administrative systems to support programs, such as the increased use of the Tessitura database for constituent and program tracking.
  • Process orders in Tessitura Software for all Education group tickets for both department programming and Roundabout productions.
  • Liaise with Roundabout’s IT department and Education Staff to maximize the department’s use of Tessitura Software
  • Work with the department social media taskforce to update Education Instagram account.
  • Coordinate with Education Data and Career Development Manager to provide financial, curricular, and statistical reports for internal and external purposes.
  • Collect data, work samples, and photographs for final reports.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and reports as needed.
  • Support education events as necessary.
  • Participate in monthly internal professional development sessions with all Education staff.

This is some of what the Assistant Education Manager should bring:

The ideal candidate will be extremely personable and collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills. They will also possess the following:

  • Highly adaptable in fast moving industry juggling multiple tasks.
  • Knowledgeable on teaching artist practices, and multiple disciplines such as acting, directing, dance, lighting and sound.
  • Understanding of and experience with education system processes, ideally the New York City Department of Education.
  • Direct experience managing budgets.
  • Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable cultivating creative entry points for residencies while collaborating with artists and administrators.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail, ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent Computer software skills: Tessitura, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (preferred).
  • Fluency in a language other than English, (i.e. Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic) is a plus.
  • Able to lift 20 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Experience building consensus with a broad range of partners in a variety of communities and an ability to engage respectfully with individuals from historically marginalized NYC neighborhoods and communities.

Some evening and weekend work is required. The salary for this position is $50,000–$55,000 annually plus any overtime. This is a full-time non-exempt position with all standard Roundabout benefits.


LOCATION AND HOURS:

Roundabout’s Education Offices are on the 3rd Floor of the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. An elevator is available most of the time, but sometimes it is not available.

Frequent site visits take place in public schools across the five boroughs. Kindly note that unfortunately, not all schools are fully accessible.

The general schedule is Monday-Friday 10am–6pm with some weekend and evening hours required. Roundabout staff follow a hybrid work schedule of three days in-office (Tuesday and Thursday required) and two days remote.
