Director Tom O’Horgan’s 1974 film adaptation of Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros, starring Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, and Karen Black, will be screened at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria November 4 at 6:30 PM.
Mostel won a Tony Award in 1961 for starring in Orson Welles’ adaptation of Ionesco’s play. The film marks the first and only time Mostel and Wilder appeared together following the Mel Brooks’ comedy The Producers in 1967.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between Ester Fuchs and playwright Theresa Rebeck about how the political theories explored in the story still resonate today.
