News West Side Story Dances Into Drury Lane Theatre Tonight The Drury Lane Theatre production of the classic musical West Side Story plays the Illinois venue Jan. 15-March 22. Opening is Jan. 22.

Rachel Rockwell directs the production with choreography by Rhett Guter, who also serves as associate director and stars as Riff.

The cast is led by Christina Nieves as Maria, Jim DeSelm as Tony and Michelle Aravena as Anita.

They are joined by John Francis Gray as Officer Krupke, Roger Mueller as Doc, Lucas Segovia as Bernardo, Bret Tuomi as Lt. Shrank and Tommy Rivera Vega as Chino with Adrian Aguilar (Action), Isaiah Allatorre (Anxious), Anthony Avino (Indio), Larry Baldacci (Gladhand), Annelise Baker (Graziella), Lillian Castillo (Rosalia), Courtney Cerny (Minnie), Carl Draper (Diesel), Cameron Erdis (Snowboy), Lucas Fedele (A-rab), Ryan Fitzgerald (Big Deal), Rachel Marie LaPorte (Consuela), Kristina Larson-Hauk (Pauline), John Marshall, Jr. (Baby John), Deanna Ott (Velma), Chip Payos (Nibbles), Todd Rhoades (Luis), Elena Romanowski (Teresita), Emma Rosenthal (Anybodys), Will Skrip (Gee-Tar), Glenn Snellgrose (Pepe) and Lauren Villegas (Francisca).

"A modern retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet set on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the 1950s," West Side Story, according to press notes, "is the poignant tale of Tony and Maria, star-crossed young lovers caught in a turf war between rival gangs." The musical is the result of a collaboration between three theatrical luminaries: Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.

The production also has musical direction by Roberta Duchak, set design by Scott Davis, properties design by Nick Heggestad, wig and makeup design by Rick Jarvie, lighting design by Yael Lubetzky, sound design by Ray Nardelli, costumes coordinated by Erika Senase with original costume design by David Woolard. Eva Breneman is the dialect coach, and Matt Hawkins is the fight choreographer.
