Video Watch Caesar Samayoa in an Exclusive Performance From Off-Broadway’s Los Otros

The Michael John LaChiusa and Ellen Fitzhugh musical continues its limited run through October 8.

The New York premiere of Los Otros, a one-act musical with a book and lyrics by Tony nominee Ellen Fitzhugh (Grind, Paradise Found) and music by five-time Tony nominee Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party, Giant), began its limited run at A.R.T./New York Theatres August 25. Performances continue through October 8.

Come From Away's Caesar Samayoa, who plays a Mexican immigrant named Carlos, says, “It touches upon every kind of theme you could imagine for an immigrant in this country. Assimilation, acceptance, where we fit in in the world.” Watch the video above for Samayoa's performance of the song “La Paz” from the musical.

The semi-autobiographical production casts Luba Mason (Girl From the North Country) and Samayoa as two Californians who, while exploring significant moments in their lives, discover they are linked in unexpected ways.

Noah Himmelstein directs the New York premiere, which features musical direction by J. Oconer Navarro, orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin, scenic design by Junghyun Georgia Lee, costume design by Alejo Vietti, lighting design by Adam Honoré, and sound design by Ken Travis. Robert Bennett is production stage manager. The show is produced by Premieres NYC (Paulette Haupt), in association with Mary J. Davis. The run is produced and general managed by Joey Monda of Dailey-Monda Management, and produced by Paulette Haupt.

Los Otros made its East Coast premiere in 2017 under Himmelstein’s direction at Everyman Theatre in Baltimore, following a 2012 Los Angeles premiere under the direction of Graciela Daniele.
