Ben Platt’s long-awaited solo album Sing To Me Instead drops March 29, and the former Evan Hansen marked the occasion by singing on The Today Show’s Citi Concert Series. The star sang “Grow As We Go,” having previously released the music video, and a first public performance of “Older.”

Platt has been slowly releasing multiple singles from the album—including “Bad Habit,” “Ease My Mind,”—since February, but now the full album is available on shelves, for digital download, and streaming. Overnight, the album jumped into the frontrunners of iTunes Top Charts for pop.

The Tony Award winner for Dear Evan Hansen says that the beauty of the album is that “I get to present myself free from character and free from narrative—just really present who I am and try to delve into things that mean enough to me to sing about, like relationships and my family and mortality.”

Sing To Me Instead comes from Atlantic Records, and features all original songs. “I wrote a couple by myself and then a bunch with a lot of really talented co-writers (including Michael Pollack),” Platt told Hoda Kotb. “We wrote 30-some songs, and we sat down and said, 'What are the ones we can't live without?'”
