The United Palace, set to host the 76th Annual Tony Awards June 11, has announced Broadway Bound, an event that will introduce the community to theatre careers beyond performing on the stage. Set for May 8, the free and public event will have three sessions at 4:30 PM, 5:30 PM, and 6:30 PM.

Across the sessions, attendees will get an inside look at the lives of theatre professionals, including costume, sound, and lighting designers. First will be "How to Get Started On a Non-Performance Career on Broadway," which will cover resources and initiatives for building a career from theatre professionals dedicated to diversifying Broadway. Next, sound, lighting, and costume designers will talk about how they got to Broadway and what their jobs entail in "Building a World: Designing Broadway Shows." Closing out the event will be "The Road to Broadway," which tracks a show's life from an idea to opening night.

“The United Palace’s opening in 1930 was billed as ‘Times Square entertainment nearer your home,’” said United Palace CEO Mike Fitelson. “The Tony Awards is delivering on that promise first by bringing its showstopping awards program to 175th Street, and second by creating additional programming to educate local residents about jobs on Broadway. If young people aren’t inspired to pursue these career paths, they will never know how big to dream. The Tonys understands that talent is widely distributed and doesn’t end at 42nd Street.”

Tony Awards time is ramping up with Tony nominations, to be announced by Funny Girl star Lea Michele and 2022 Tony winner Myles Frost, approaching quickly. Nominees for a selection of categories will be read live on CBS Morning at 8:30 AM ET, with all nominees to be revealed via a live-streamed event at Sofitel New York. The stream which will begin on the Tony Awards' YouTube channel at 9 AM ET.

Details on an accompanying special honoring the 2022-2023 Broadway season will be announced in the coming weeks.
