Helmed by the company's artistic director Scott Alan Evans, Hard Love is set to begin performances Sept. 29 at the Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row. An official opening night is set for Oct. 11.
Lerner's play is set in the ultra-orthodox Mea She’arim district in Jerusalem. It follows the "fiercely romantic and passionate story" of Hannah and Zvi, a divorced couple whose lives are unexpectedly intertwined once more when the teenage children from their second marriages become romantically involved. "The enormous divide between the faithful and the non-believing is attempted to be bridged by the power of an undying earthly love," state press notes.
The creative team is made up of John McDermott (sets), Kim Krumm Sorenson (costumes), Aaron Copp (lights), Toby Algya (sound) and Samantha Shoffner (props). Kelly Burns is production stage manager, and Yetti Steinman is assistant stage manager.
Hard Love premiered in Israel and has since received productions in North Carolina, Atlanta and around the world.
