On the January 10 broadcast of LIVE with Kelly and Mark, stage and screen star Victor Garber shared how the 1971 Off-Broadway musical Godspell (and the subsequent 1973 film adaptation) brought him to New York City and launched his career. Check out the interview in the video clip above. 

Garber grew up in Ontario and made his New York stage debut as a replacement for Jesus in Godspell. Garber had previously played the role in the musical's original Toronto staging, which also helped launched the careers of stars like Gilda Radner, Andrea Martin, and Martin Short. 

"It was a life-changing experience," Garber said. "I lived in Greenwich Village, in a third-floor walk up, and I thought, 'Well, I've made it.'" 

This was only the beginning for Garber, who went on to perform in a multitude of Broadway shows—including Sweeney Todd; Noises Off; Damn Yankees; Hello, Dolly!, and more—not to mention his long list of film and TV credits. Garber has received four Tony Award nominations, for his performances in Deathtrap, Little Me, Lend Me a Tenor, and Damn Yankees.

Recently, Garber appeared in the Irish Repertory Theatre's Love Letters Off-Broadway, alongside J. Smith-Cameron. The pair's limited engagement ran September 19-24, 2023. Also in 2023, Garber appeared in two episodes of Max's Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That..., and lent his voice to Disney's Wish.
