Young Sheldon, which is a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, follows young Sheldon Cooper and the Cooper family as they navigate life in East Texas at the end of the 20th century. Jones will play Audrey McCallister, the domineering mother of Mandy (Emily Osment), who is having a baby with Sheldon's older brother Georgie. Will Sasso will play Audrey's husband Jim.
Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage, the son of Broadway's Euan Morton and theatre producer Lee Armitage, as Cooper. He first leapt to prominence in 2015 for his theatre review series Iain Loves Theatre and was subsequently featured in the drama Big Little Lies.
Jones received a Tony for her performance as Heidi Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen, for which she also received a Grammy and an Emmy. On Broadway she also starred as Catherine in Pippin and appeared in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Hair, and Meet Me in St. Louis. On screen Jones has appeared in The Good Doctor, Why Women Kill, United States of Al, God Friended Me, and Panic. In 2009 she released an album of stripped-down show tune covers, entitled ShowFolk.
Young Sheldon airs Thursdays at 8 PM on CBS, with next day streaming on Paramount+.
