Tony Danza will star in an invitation-only industry reading of Michele Aldin Kushner's Radio Galaxy February 2 at the New York Library for Performing Arts. The work, centering on a teenage science prodigy whose biological father unexpectedly enters his life, will be directed by David Esbjornson.
Radio Galaxy follows Tino, a 17-year-old from a hardworking, blue collar family. Tino "eats, sleeps, and dreams" astronomy, not unlike his astrophysicist biological father Raju, who unexpectedly enters his life. With their newfound connection, Tino has the opportunity to have his dreams of studying the cosmos realized—if only his father would let him.
Producers Margot Astrachan and Richard Winkler describe the play as "exploring family in a most thoughtful but also heart-stopping way," stating: "What does it mean to be a father? What determines fatherhood? And can we overcome our prejudices? Our hope is that the play will be the catalyst for insightful conversations about love and the family unit."
The cast will include Tony Danza (Honeymoon In Vegas), Oscar Williams (Fun Home), Ritisha Chakraborty (The Skin of our Teeth), Ami Sheth (Blindspot), and Alok Tewari (The Band’s Visit).
