The evening also saw historic wins for non-binary performers Alex Newell and J. Harrison Ghee.

Winners were named June 11 at the 76th Annual Tony Awards in a starry ceremony at United Palace in NYC's Washington Heights, with Kimberly Akimbo and Leopoldstadt taking the evening's most coveted categories, Best Musical and Best Play, respectively.

Kimberly Akimbo was the most Tony-winning production of the evening, taking five categories. Along with winning for David Lindsay-Abaire's book and Jeanine Tesori and Lindsay-Abaire's score, the production picked up wins for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Bonnie Milligan and Best Leading Actress in a Musical for Victoria Clark.

Leopoldstadt was right behind Kimberly, tying with Some Like It Hot with four wins.

In a historic first for the trans and non-binary community, the awards saw the first-ever wins for openly non-binary performers, in the still-gendered Featured Actor in a Musical and Leading Actor in a Musical categories. Alex Newell took the former for their performance in Shucked, and J. Harrison Ghee won in the latter for their performance in Some Like It Hot.
