News "The Sopranos" Star Tapped for Diversified Staging of The Glass Menagerie Off-Broadway Masterworks Theater Company has announced a racially diverse cast for its production of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, to be directed by Christopher Scott with a mission of making the classic work more accessible. Amongst the cast are Saundra Santiago ("The Sopranos," "Miami Vice") and Richard Prioleau (HBO's "A Normal Heart") as Tom.

Performances are set to begin May 8 and continue through May 30, with an official opening night slated for May 14 at the 47th Street Theatre in New York.

Also included in the cast are Olivia Washington ("The Butler") and Doug Harris (The Found Dog Ribbon Dance).

"We hope to offer a fresh look at this amazing masterwork through our diverse cast," said Masterworks Theater Company's artistic director, Christopher Scott in a press statement. "This production highlights our mission by making these classic works accessible to emerging audiences, emphasizing their universality."

Williams’ semi-autobiographical account of St. Louis in the 1930’s, The Glass Menagerie tells the story of frustrated writer Tom Wingfield and a family desperate to break free of the burdens of their past and present. The last Broadway production was at the Booth Theatre in 2013 where it was nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Revival.
