Classic Arts News The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado Set for Rebroadcast in U.K. The English National Opera production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas, staged at the London Coliseum in 2015, will head back to movie theatres.

Fans of Gilbert and Sullivan will have the chance to catch English National Opera’s productions of The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado on the big screen once more. The two operettas were originally broadcast live from the London Coliseum in 2015 and will return to U.K. movie theatres for one day only each.

The Pirates of Penzance, screening June 18, marked Mike Leigh’s operatic directorial debut. The production starred Andrew Shore, Robert Murray, and Jonathan Lemalu. The Mikado, screening July 2, was directed by Jonathan Miller. Robert Lloyd, Richard Suart, Mary Bevan, and Anthony Gregory were all featured in the operatic tale set in Japan.
