London News The Lehman Trilogy Is Coming Back to London's West End Again

The Tony-winning play is written by Stefano Massini, adapted by Ben Power, and directed by Sam Mendes.

The National Theatre and Neal Street Productions' Tony-winning production of The Lehman Trilogy will return to London’s West End this fall.

The production, most recently seen in San Francisco, will play the Gillian Lynne Theatre September 24, 2024-January 5, 2025.

Written by Stefano Massini, adapted by Ben Power, and directed by Sam Mendes, with set design by Es Devlinthe cast will again feature John Heffernan, Aaron Krohn, and Howard W. Overshown playing the Lehman brothers, their sons, and grandsons. Cat Beveridge and Anyssa Neumann will reprise their respective performances as principal pianist and alternate pianist. Further casting will be announced.

The production also has costume design by Katrina Lindsay, video design by Luke Halls, lighting design by Jon Clark, music and sound design by Nick Powell, co-sound design by Dominic Bilkey, music direction by Candida Caldicot, movement direction by Polly Bennett, and West End direction by Rory McGregor. Company voice work is by Charmian Hoare with casting by Naomi Downham, associate lighting design by Charlotte Burton, and associate video design by Zakk Hein.

The Lehman Trilogy charts the humble beginnings, outrageous successes, and devastating failure of the financial institution that would ultimately bring the global economy to its knees.

Mendes' production received five 2022 Tony Awards: Best Play, Best Director, Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Actor. It also won the Drama League Award for Best Play and six Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Best Play.

First commissioned by Neal Street Productions and developed and co-produced with the National Theatre at the Lyttelton in 2018, The Lehman Trilogy then played a sold-out run at the Park Avenue Armory in spring 2019. The production returned to London for a 16-week sold-out run at the Piccadilly Theatre. Following the Broadway shutdown, The Lehman Trilogy was the first British play to return to Broadway—where it had previously played four performances in March 2020—for a limited engagement at the Nederlander Theatre from September 2021 until January 2022.
