The new musical The Apple Boys will receive a series of industry readings later this month. Featuring a book by Jonothon Lyons, music and lyrics by Ben Bonnema, and directed by David Alpert, the piece will be presented April 25 and 26 at Open Jar Studios.
The Apple Boys is a four-person comedy set in turn-of-the-century Coney Island. When Jack, the grandson of Johnny Appleseed, sets out to save his family apple orchard with the help of hot dog magnate Nathan, strongman Warren, and aspiring roller coaster designer Hank, the unlikely friends are transformed by their collaboration.
This reading will star Alex Gibson (SpongeBob SquarePants, Octet), Jelani Remy (Back to the Future, Ain’t too Proud), Tony nominee Emily Skeggs (Fun Home), and Teddy Yudain (Little Shop of Horrors).
They will be supported by Rona Siddiqui (A Strange Loop) as music supervisor, and stage manager Jereme Kyle Lewis. General Management will be by Hillel Friedman from Evan Bernardin Productions.
The Apple Boys previously received presentations at Dixon Place and Ars Nova, and a full production Off-Off Broadway in the Dorothy B. Williams Theatre at HERE Arts Center in 2018.
