Monty Python member Terry Gilliam, who designed animated segments for the film and for the TV series "Monty Python's Flying Circus," assembled a collection of "lost" animations that were created for the film but deleted from the final cut.
According to Gilliam's narration, they were based on medieval illuminated manuscripts of the Bible—but far more irreverent.
The 1975 film served as the basis for the Tony-winning musical Monty Python's Spamalot, which has a book by Eric Idle and music by John Du Prez. The late Mike Nichols directed the production, which won three 2005 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
