With the forthcoming London revival of The Rink set to begin previews next month at the Southwark Playhouse, now is certainly a good time to look back at this vintage Saturday Night Live sketch poking fun at the Tony-nominated John Kander and Fred Ebb musical.

In the 1984 clip available here, (recently brought back into theatre circles thanks to Adam Turner), Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Mary Gross take on the roles originated by Tony winners Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera for a new mother-daughter show titled The Womb.

The parody closely resembles a teaser video featuring Minnelli and Rivera that was released when the show first premiered. Take a look at the original below and compare:

In the musical, Anna (Rivera), an Italian housewife who runs a roller-skating rink on the Eastern seaboard, is about to sell it to developers until her estranged daughter Angel (Minnelli) returns after a long absence, hoping to save the rink and patch things up with her mother.
