Tony winner Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Kinky Boots) stars in the out-of-town tryout for new jukebox musical In Dreams beginning July 3 at Leeds Playhouse in the U.K. Featuring a book by Tony nominee David West Read (& Juliet, Schitt's Creek), the musical features songs of rock and roll singer-songwriter Roy Orbison. Aiming for Broadway, the production plays through August 5.
Alongside Hall as Kenna, the cast also stars Oliver Tompsett (& Juliet) as Ramsey, Sian Reese-Williams as Jane, Noël Sullivan as Donovan, Manuel Pacific as Oscar, Gabriela García as Nicole, Alma Cuervo as Ana Sofia, Richard Trinder as George, and Leon Craig as Tom. Completing the cast are ensemble members and understudies Hannah Ducharme as Bianca, Mark Peachey as Officer Lee, Pablo Gómez Jones, and Fabiola Ocasio.
In Dreams follows Kenna, the former lead singer of a country rock band played by Hall, who decides to throw a party at a critical moment in her life. At the party, which is held in a family-run Mexican restaurant, she invites old friends to reconnect while hiding ulterior motives.
& Juliet's Luke Sheppard reunites with Read to direct the production. Rounding out the creative team are choreographer Fabian Aloise, set designer Arnulfo Maldonado, costume designer Fay Fullerton, music supervisor Catherine Jayes, musical director Patrick Hurley, lighting designer Howard Hudson, sound designer Tom Marshall, video designer George Reeve, voice and dialect coach Salvatore Sorce, and intimacy director Asha Jennings-Grant. Casting is by Annelie Powell and Stephen Kopel.
Musicians include Steve Bramwell on guitar, Gordon Davidson on electric bass and double bass, Nick Hill on guitar, Patrick Hurley on keys, David Keech on percussion, and Rachel Steadman on violin and viola.
The U.K. run will be followed by an engagement at Toronto's CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre in Canada.
