News Stage Directors Earn DGA Award Nominations for TV Musicals The directors of Hairspray Live! and Grease Live! will vie for the same award.

The directors of Broadway-related TV projects Hairspray Live!, Grease Live!, and All the Way will compete in the category Best Movie for TV and Miniseries in the 2017 Directors Guild of America Awards.

The 69th annual DGA Awards will be given February 4 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Thomas Kail (Hamilton), who directed Grease Live!, will compete with Kenny Leon (Hairspray Live!) and Jay Roach (All the Way). Also vying in that category are Steven Zaillian of The Night Of and Raymond De Felitta (Madoff).

Glenn Weiss, who directed the 70th Annual Tony Awards broadcast, was nominated in the category Best Variety/News/Talk/Sports Special. Weiss is scheduled to return to direct the 2017 Tony Awards show as well.
