Invitation-only readings of Emojiland: The Musical will be presented September 28 at 1:30 PM and 7:30 PM in Manhattan.
Emojis are the small icons used to express an emotion (or idea) in electronic communication.
Directed by Whitney White, the ensemble cast includes 2017 Drama Desk nominee Nora Schell (Spamilton), Morgan Weed (American Psycho), Rheaume Crenshaw (Groundhog Day), Terance Reddick (Les Miserables), Caley Crawford (Holiday Inn), Anthony Alfaro (The View Upstairs), Jessie Cannizzaro (Puffs), Michael Thomas Grant (For The Record), Leah Lewis (The Voice), Payson Lewis (For The Record), Karl Skyler Urban (Hairspray Live!), Nate Lewellyn (October Sky), Claire Wilmoth (UCB), Brandon Louis Armstrong, Darrell T. Joe, and Pablo Rossil. Meg Chambers Steedle (Boardwalk Empire) will narrate.
Emojiland, which features a book and score by husband-and-wife team Keith and Laura Harrison, concerns a group of the titular emoticons and their smartphone community, which is under threat of extinction with an impending software update.
This is the first New York reading after three years of development.
