Make some noise! Jay Adana is up next for Playbill's Songwriter Series, which launched in July with a soulful performance by Troy Anthony, featured Jaime Jarrett's transgender superhero musical Wonder Boy in August, Cheeyang Ng's Eastbound and MĀYĀ in September, and Truth Future Bachman's Shapeshifters and Luna and the Starbodies in October. The series is dedicated to spotlighting emerging composers and features a new video every month.
Adana visited Playbill to perform songs from two of her musicals, The Loophole and The Jordan & Avery Show. The first, which Adana has co-written with Zeniba Now, is a Black sci-fi epic that takes place during the American Civil War. The latter is a two-person dramedy that centers on two comedy song collaborator roommates who reach rock bottom before stardom can save them.
Featured songs include "Out There" from The Loophole; and "Someone You Love", "Unbelievable", and "How Hard I Love You" from The Jordan & Avery Show.
Adana is joined in the Songwriter Series video by collaborator Zeniba Now, and vocalist Ally Bonino (Suffs). The group is accompanied by pianist and music director Madeline Benson and percussionist Corey Rawls. Benson is playing the Playbill piano, provided by the nonprofit Sing for Hope.
