Off-Broadway's Soft Brain Theatre Company will present its new all-female production, The Ring, December 10.
Devised in the same way Commedia troupes of the 17th century would generate classic scenarios, the whimsical play promises laughter, intrigue, and unexpected twists.
Directed by RJ Tabachnick, the one-night-only production will star Chanterelle Davis as Aurelio, Nicole Tsarouhas as Brighella/Capitano, Emma Yaniger as Columbina, Megan Jeter as Isabella, and Scottie Schwefel as Pantalone.
Set in the heart of Renaissance Italy, where masks conceal secrets and love dances with deception, a sought-after ring travels through the townspeople. Celebrating the art of improvisation, the play weaves together characters, wit, and physicality to form a new Commedia classic.
Said director Tabachnick in a statement, “The Ring is a simple and delightful tale of longing and love. Soft Brain, in its mission to revitalize Commedia dell’arte, has created a hilarious play as it would have been crafted 400 years ago in Italy, while simultaneously appealing to the humor and excitement present in 2023.”
The Ring is produced by Soft Brain Theatre Company, a collective of creatives making character-first comedy through the lenses of Commedia dell’arte, clown, and musical theatre.
