Featuring music by Franz Liszt, Irving Berlin and Harry Tierney, the music has been made available through a partnership between The Smithsonian Institution and Sheet Music Plus, an online retailer of music manuscripts.
Chosen for its cultural or historical significance, the music comes from the Sam DeVincent collection of illustrated American sheet music, which was donated to the Smithsonian in 1998.
Titles include several versions of the “The Star-Spangled Banner,” early ragtime and turn-of-the-century military marches dedicated to President Theodore Roosevelt.
The entire DeVincent collection is available to researchers, free on request, at the Smithsonian Archives.
Part of the profits from the sheet-music sales will help to support Smithsonian archival work.
