Julie Kramer will direct a cast that includes Sas Goldberg, who will make her Broadway debut in the forthcoming Significant Other, as well as Sasha Eden, Anthony Fazio, and David J. Goldberg.
The new play, according to press notes, tells the story of “Jackie, a young, feisty dental hygienist who finds herself at a crossroad. It’s July 2011 and as her Yankee hero, Derek Jeter approaches his 3,000th hit milestone, Jackie realizes that her long-term relationship with fellow die-hard Jeter fan, Sal is on the Disabled List. Her commitment to Sal is tested when a charming, new patient appears in her life, offering the dreamy possibility of marriage, home and adventure. Is Jackie and Sal’s mutual passion for Derek Jeter the only thing keeping them together? Can Derek help Jackie find her way back to love?”
Derek Jeter Makes the Play received a developmental reading at the Cherry Lane Theatre as part of the theatre’s Tongues reading series in July 2015.
