J2 Spotlight Musical Theatre Company has revealed full casting for its upcoming revival of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's Lucky Stiff, set to play the AMT Theatre May 3-12. J2 Artistic Director and Co-Founder Robert W. Schneider is directing the new staging, with music direction by Miles Plant and choreography by Gerry McIntyre.
The cast will be led by Patrick Brady (Thrill Me) as Harry, Missy Dowse (Gypsy) as Annabell, Janine LaManna (Seussical) as Rita, and Robert Anthony Jones (Finding Neverland) as Vinnie. The cast will also feature Anania (Kinky Boots) as Dominique, Marisa Budnick (Stranger Things) as Landlady, Alexander Carney (Hamlet) as Uncle Anthony, Quinn Corcoran (Sweeney Todd) as Bellhop, Eric Michael Gillett (Kiss Me, Kate) as Luigi, and Richard Rowan (Seussical) as Solicitor.
Lucky Stiff is the first produced collaboration between Ragtime writers Ahrens and Flaherty, a quirky comedy that sees a meek shoe salesman tasked with wheeling the corpse of his dead uncle halfway across the globe so that he can collect his generous inheritance. The score introduced such Ahrens and Flaherty classics as "Times Like This" and "Good to Be Alive." The musical premiered Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in 1988.
J2's production will feature scenic design by Matthew Imhoff, costume design by Thomas Gluodenis, and lighting design by Tollie Boone. Joey Paradise will be stage manager with Maria Papadopoulos as assistant stage manager. Casting is by Wojcik Casting's Holly Buczek.
“We're thrilled that our very first Off-Broadway show, Lucky Stiff, will be wheeling into NYC again, complete with gunshots, barking dogs, a corpse, an inheritance, and a romance!," say Ahrens and Flaherty in a joint statement. "We'll definitely be lifting some Dom Perignon to J2 Spotlight Productions!”
"We are very excited about reviving this show, and especially since the authors, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens are happily involved with us in the production," adds J2 Executive Producer and Co-Founder Jim Jimirro. "Their regard for the material is palpable, and they are bringing a perspective on the piece that is, of course, priceless."
This production is being presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International as an Equity-approved showcase.
