Casting is now complete for the new musical Life After at Toronto's CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre. Part of the 2024–2025 Off-Mirvish season, performances are scheduled for April 16–May 4, 2025.
As previously reported, Isabella Esler, who played Lydia Deetz in the first national tour of Beetlejuice, will lead the company, joined by the newly announced Jake Epstein (Beautiful), Chilina Kennedy (Beautiful), Mariand Torres (Lempicka), Valeria Ceballos (Dear Evan Hansen national tour), Jay Davis (Dear Evan Hansen national tour), Kaylee Harwood (Beautiful national tour), Arinea Hermans, Isidora Kecman, Zoe O'Connor, Eva Petris, and Julia Pulo (Six).
With a book, music, and lyrics by Britta Johnson, Life After will be directed by Annie Tippe. Canadian casting is by Dayton Walters Casting with New York casting by Tara Rubin Casting.
The production will also have choreography by Ann Yee, scenic design by Todd Rosenthal, costume design by Sarafina Bush, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, and sound design by Kai Harada and Haley Parcher. Greg Dougherty is the production manager, and Kate Sandeson is the production stage manager.
In the new musical, famous self-help author Frank Carter's optimistic advice offers little solace to his 16-year-old daughter, Alice. After his untimely death, Alice embarks on a quest for truth, unraveling the events that changed her family forever.
"I am so thrilled that Life After is coming to this legendary stage in my hometown for the next phase of its journey,” said Johnson in an earlier statement. “This is the community that raised me and the city that has championed this show since the first downbeat on opening night at the Toronto Fringe in 2016. Developing this show has been the most transformative part of my career so far, and it’s an honor to bring it home and share its journey with my community again."
Life After premiered in Toronto in 2017
and played a sold-out run at the Berkeley Street Theatre. It was
subsequently produced at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre and Chicago’s
Goodman Theatre.
