Go inside A Tectonic Cabaret, the annual benefit for The Tectonic Theater Project, with photos from the star-studded evening. Hosted by Jane Krakowski, the concert played Sony Hall October 2.
The evening included performances and appearances by Tituss Burgess, Joaquina Kalukango, Jelani Remy, Meghan Picerno, John McGinty, Chloe Davis, Nick Lehane, Grace McLean, and Donna Carnow.
Emmy and Tony Award winner Cynthia Nixon was presented with the inaugural Jane Fonda Award, which honors an artist who has demonstrated a deep commitment to activism for social justice. Nixon has dedicated much of her career to advocating for LGBTQ+ equality, public education, and reproductive rights.
Author and educator Kevin Jennings also received the James C. Hormel “Spirit of Tectonic” Award for his advocacy in the LGBTQ+ community, which goes back to 1988, when he helped students create the nation’s first Gay-Straight Alliance club.
The Tectonic Theater Project is a not-for-profit theatre company based in New York City. The company has created and staged more than 20 plays and musicals, including artistic director and founder Moisés Kaufman's Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, The Laramie Project, Doug Wright's Pulitzer-winning I Am My Own Wife, and Kaufman's Tony Award-winning 33 Variations starring Jane Fonda. Kaufman also co-wrote and directed the Emmy Award-nominated HBO film adaptation of The Laramie Project.
Proceeds from the cabaret benefited the theatre's development of new works and education programs through The Moment Work Institute.
