The Disney+ retelling is set to premiere September 8.

Our dreams have come true! Disney+ dropped the second trailer for its upcoming live action adaptation of Pinocchio. The movie, starring Tom Hanks and Oscar and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo, premieres September 8 on the streamer.

Hanks and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (last seen in Netflix's The Sandman) will lead the flick as wood-carver Geppetto and the title character, respectively. Erivo steps into the role of Blue Fairy—giving us a tease of "When You Wish Upon a Star" in the trailer— and Schmigadoon's Keegan-Michael Key plays Honest John.

The retelling is directed by Robert Zemeckis and follows the well-known tale of a wooden puppet embarking on an adventure to become a real boy. The cast also features Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Lorraine Bracco as the original character Sofia the Seagull, and Luke Evans as The Coachman.

The movie is produced by Zemeckis, Derek Hogue, Andrew Miano, Chris Weitz. and Paul Weitz, with Jackie Levine, Jack Rapke, Alexandra Derbyshire, and Jeremy Johns as the executive producers.

This Pinocchio movie precedes the Netflix's stop-motion retelling (announced in August 2020) by Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro, which is set to reinvent the classic tale. The adaptation will star Gregory Mann, Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, and Finn Wolfhard. Also in the tale's astonishing resurgence, a Russian direct-to-DVD animated movie titled Pinocchio: A True Story reached viability credited to Pauly Shore's job voicing the title character in the English dub.
