Bohemian Progeny, a new musical with book, music, and lyrics by Julian Rosenblum and additional story development by Sabrina Karlin, will present two industry readings at Ripley Grier Studios. Readings will be held February 22 at 3 PM and February 23 at 11 AM.
The cast features Sam Primack (Dear Evan Hansen), Kyle Scatliffe (Hamilton,
The Color Purple), Danielle Wade (Mean Girls), Ellis Gage (White Rose), Kelly Lester (Cabaret),
Joanne Lessner (Milk and Honey), David Rowen (Bob Marley's Three Little Birds) and Missy Dowse
(Gypsy).
Bohemian Progeny follows Jason, a son of two musical theatre writers who is immersed in the theatrical world. But Jason's dreams are different—he wants to be a software engineer. The musical "is for anyone who’s ever had a complicated relationship with their job, their parents, or the tireless
pursuit of purpose."
Amy Griffin (How the Grinch Stole Christmas!) will direct the readings, with musical direction and arrangements by Joshua Rosenblum (Into the Woods). Carolyn Reich is the production stage manager.
"There are so many stories out there about moving to New York and trying to make it in the arts, but I’m sort of the opposite of that,” Rosenblum said in a statement. “I was born in New York to showbiz parents whom I rebelled against by becoming a software engineer. I wanted to put my own spin on a classic coming-of-age story, while also poking fun at both the New York theatre world and the San Francisco tech world.”
Bohemian Progeny is executive produced by Jen Sandler.
