The northeast regional premiere of the U.K. hit Everybody's Talking About Jamie will be presented at New Hampshire's Weathervane Theatre July 31–August 29.
Blair St. Clair, a favorite from the 10th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, will head the company as Jamie New, with additional casting and creative team members to be announced. St. Clair's film credits include Bittersweet and John Waters’ upcoming musical remake of Bollywood & Vine: The Original B-Musical.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie features music by Dan Gillespie Sells and a book and lyrics by Tom MacRae from an idea by Jonathan Butterell. Based on a 2011 documentary, the musical tells the true story of Jamie Campbell, who overcomes prejudice and homophobia to become a drag queen and schoolyard legend.
“Casting is always a nuanced and pivotal part of any process," said Weathervane Theatre Producing Artistic Director Ethan Paulini in a statement. "The role requires a performer to possess many qualities—intelligence, talent, and star power—beyond the prerequisites of singing, dancing, and acting. After a thorough casting process, I am thrilled that Blair brought all those qualities and more. I know this performance will elevate a landmark production, and I can’t wait to share it with audiences.”
“I am thrilled to be playing my absolute dream role in my dream show,” added St. Clair. “This show feels like it was written about me and my story. As a queer person, I continue to push for gender equality in theatre, and as a non-binary actor, I am constantly battling being seen as a queer person for who I am internally—not just on the outside. …Jamie is a story of love and identity, which I want audiences to see more of! I hope audiences can connect with the heart of the story."
Everybody's Talking About Jamie premiered in 2017 in Sheffield in the U.K., subsequently moving to the West End. The show, which just finished up its West End revival run in March, was also adapted into a 2019 feature film. The North American premiere of Everybody's Talking About Jamie was presented at Center Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, California, in January 2022.
