Pulitzer prize finalist Rebecca Gilman's play Swing State begins its New York premiere September 8 Off-Broadway. The run, which is set to open September 17, follows the work's world premiere at Chicago's Goodman Theatre.

The production, which plays Audible's Minetta Lane Theatre, is directed by Tony winner Robert Falls and features the original Chicago cast, including Mary Beth Fisher as Peg, Kirsten Fitzgerald as Sheriff Kris, Anne E. Thompson as Dani, and Bubba Weiler as Ryan. Understudies for the production include Laura T. Fisher, Jessica Ervin, Jack Lancaster, and Erika Rolfsrud.

Swing State is a contemporary portrait of America's heartland, exploring how individuals react when they feel like their way of life is in danger of disappearing. As a part of Audible's performance program, the production will be recorded and released on Audible at a later date.

Said Gilman in a previous statement, “I’m thrilled to be working with Audible and delighted to have this opportunity to expand the audience of Swing State beyond our world premiere run in Chicago. The past few years have been so volatile and have left us all feeling vulnerable. But there's also been a great deal of joy. As emotional states continue to swing pretty wildly, we’re faced with the question of where we find hope and how we connect again. We have to focus on who we love, and how we love them—and how we can help one another not only survive, but thrive.”

The creative team for Swing State includes scenic designer Todd Rosenthal, costume designer Evelyn M. Danner, lighting designer Eric Southern, original music composer and sound designer Richard Woodbury, fight and intimacy director Nick Sandys, properties director Alice Maguire, production stage manager Patrick Fries, and casting agents Lauren Port and Rachael Jimenez. Technical supervision will be by Hudson Theatrical Associates’ Sean Gorski, with general management by Baseline Theatrical’s Jonathan Whitton.
