Inside the theatre, users can simply scan their Playbill cover to access premium content about the show they are seeing and the experiences both inside the theatre and outside that are available to them. Technology housed within the app sends an alert when the show is about to begin, as well as when intermission will occur, in order to ensure that users adhere to the theatre's policy about cellphone usage during performances.

"Playbill Passport allows us to expand on the services we’ve been offering to Broadway audiences for over 130 years," says Philip Birsh, President and CEO of Playbill. "Broadway just had its best-attended and highest-grossing year to date. We are in the midst of an exciting theatrical renaissance. Times Square is booming with new businesses, thousands of offerings and no real touchstone to maximize the experience. Theatregoers have come to rely on their Playbill and the information therein for over a century. Playbill Passport will expand on that service by giving audiences a way to learn and interact with the show they are seeing, attend other shows of interest, obtain practical theatre-related information, use discounts and take advantage of all Times Square has to offer."
Broadway Voice’s technology enables Playbill Passport to provide personalized content that each theatregoer will find engaging based on their interests. Inside, users will have access to essential practical information about the show they’re seeing (running time, intermission, concession and other services available, etc.); myriad premium content about the show, its players and creators including photos, videos, social properties and more; interactive "At This Theatre" content based on Playbill's long running mainstay of the same name; planning tools to find the perfect post-show destination; and an opportunity to digitally archive theatergoing memories––pictures too!––to share on all social platforms.
Playbill Passport is also designed to service those planning their upcoming theatre experiences providing ticketing information, reservation services for restaurants and attractions nearby and more. Playbill has partnered with digital development company Broadway Voice to create Playbill Passport, a state-of-the-art media platform to engage Broadway audiences when they are in the theatre, before the show, during intermission and after the curtain comes down.
