The Broadway transfer of the Donmar Warehouse’s hit London revival of Les Liaisons Dangereuses officially opened October 30 at the Booth Theatre.
Tony Award winners Janet McTeer and Liev Schreiber star as La Marquise de Merteuil and Le Vicomte de Valmont, respectively, in Christopher Hampton's play about sexual intrigue in 18th century France.
Staged by Donmar artistic director Josie Rourke, the 15-week limited engagement is scheduled to conclude January 22, 2017.
They are joined by Tony nominee Mary Beth Peil as Madame de Rosemonde, Pitch Perfect 2 actress Birgitte Hjort Sørensen as Madame de Tourvel, Elena Kampouris (My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2) making her Broadway debut as Cécile Volanges, Raffi Barsoumian as Le Chevalier Danceny, Ora Jones as Madame de Volanges, Katrina Cunningham as Émilie, Josh Salt as Azolan, Joy Franz as Victoire, David Patterson as Major-domo, and Laura Sudduth as Julie.
Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue, and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France produced a scandal when it was first published in 1782. Hampton's stage adaption, which has been produced on Broadway twice previously, in 1987 and 2008, won both the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play when it premiered in a production under the auspices of the RSC. Rourke's new production marks the play's 30-year revival. The London production was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Revival.
