Back on Broadway in the Purlie Victorious revival, the Tony winner recently joined the New York restaurant’s famed wall of caricatures.

Tony and Grammy winner, Hamilton original cast member, and current Purlie Victoriousstar Leslie Odom, Jr. was honored with a Sardi's caricature January 17.

Odom, Jr. was joined by past collaborators, friends, family, and the company of Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch to celebrate the milestone. Several attendees provided speeches and tributes, including Phillipa Soo, Brian d'Arcy James, National Black Theatre’s Sade Lythcott and Jonathan McCrory, Purlie Victorious producers Jeffrey Richards and Hunter Arnold, Purlie Victorious co-star Kara Young, and Odom’s wife and frequent collaborator, Nicolette Robinson.

The actor returned to Broadway last September in Purlie Victorious for the first time since his Tony-winning turn as the original Aaron Burr in Hamilton. Odom also released his 5th studio album, When a Crooner Dies, last fall.

Ossie Davis' Purlie Victorious is playing through February 4 for its first-ever Broadway revival at The Music Box Theatre with Kenny Leon at the helm. (Leon also received a Sardi's portrait in an October 2023 celebration shared with the Purlie Victorious company.)

The work follows a traveling preacher, Purlie, who returns to his Georgia hometown to save the local church and the cotton pickers working on Ol' Cap'n Cotchiepee's plantation. Davis both wrote and starred in the 1961 original Broadway production, appearing alongside his wife, Ruby Dee. Davis and Dee would go on to reprise their performances in a 1963 film adaptation titled Gone Are the Days!
