A New Brain features a score by Finn and a book co-written by Finn and James Lapine. The semi-autobiographical story follows an aspiring Broadway songwriter whose life is thrown into chaos by a medical emergency. The work was the 1999 Outer Critics Circle Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical winner for its original production. A second NYC staging was mounted via New York City Center's Encores! Off-Center series in 2015.
This is the first production of A New Brain to reinstate "Anytime," a song that was cut from the original Off-Broadway run before receiving acclaim elsewhere in the Finn songbook.
