Theatrical streaming series Bard at the Gate, created by Pulitzer-winning playwright Paula Vogel in 2020, has revealed its upcoming third annual season, with streaming performances set through April. Newly streaming via Broadway On Demand, the series will present four works by female playwrights.

Opening the season October 19 is Laura Schellhardt's Shapeshifter, directed by Halena S. Kays. Described as a contemporary folktale, the work follows a young girl dealing with the mysterious loss of her mother. The October 19 premiere will include a live watch party hosted by Vogel and a post-performance talkback with members of the company. The cast will include Anita Abdinezhad, Gabriela Torres, Ora Jones, Francis Guinan, Stephen Plunkett, Robbie Tann, and Calvin Leon Smith.

Next on the docket is the world premiere of Majkin Holmquist's Tent Revival, premiering January 25, 2023. The play centers on a father whose family's fortune begins to change after he believes he has been chosen as a messenger of God. Director and casting for Tent Revival is to be announced.

The world premiere of Nikki Massoud's Cut will follow February 25, 2023, directed by Pirronne Yousefzadeh.  The dark comedy is a retelling of the Biblical story of Samson and Delilah, with casting to be announced.

The season will close  April 19, 2023, with the world premiere of Wings of Night/Wings of Morning Light, a solo work written and performed by U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, a member of the Muscogee Nation. The work combines movement, music, and poetic language to chronicle Redbird's journey to self-determination.

"Our third season presents four perceptive, funny, and lyrical voices—four women playwrights who have written journeys that explore the experience of women’s bodies, women’s agencies, and women’s strategies in worlds that are seen as patriarchal," says Vogel of the upcoming season. "With wit, determination, and compassion as we as a country are at a flashpoint, our writers witness the resiliencies of women’s lives."

The series is co-curated by Vogel and McCarter Theater Center Associate Artistic Director Nicole A. Watson. Rosey Strub produces with Ryan Pointer as associate producer. The series is produced in conjunction with McCarter Theater Center, with Milan Eldridge serving as stage manager. Digital filming and editing are by Virtual Design Collective, and creative direction is by Jared Mezzochi.

As part of the series' new partnership with Broadway On Demand, the streaming service will have the second season of Bard at the Gate available for streaming on demand ahead of the new season's premiere.
