Musician-scientist Patrick Olson's Emergence: Things Are Not as They Seem officially opens its Off-Broadway run at The Pershing Square Signature Center October 25. The limited run will continue through January 7, 2024.
The work, which Olson describes as a "concert performance," blends art, science, and music in a monologue-rock concert-psychedelic trip featuring an ensemble of musicians, singers, and dancers. The unique experience includes original music, arena-level sound, and bold questions about the human experience and the dividing line between science and art. The New York run follows a sold-out limited engagement in Los Angeles.
Joining Olson are vocalists Cherry Davis, Samara Brown, Miya Bass, and Bella Kosal; musicians Steven Styles, Nadav Hezi, Jordan Coker, and Thomas Nickell; and dancers Summer Sheldrick, Dana Liebezeit, and Lavy Cavaleire.
The creative team includes music producer Mike Avenaim; lighting director Jordan Noltner of Wasted Potential; stylist Angela Aaron; LED visual designers FutureTalk Inc., Jonathon Corbiere, Tyler Sammy, and Wasted Potential's Nick Proctor; associate producer Nadav Hezi; and creative consultants Chloe Lowery and Dina Fanai. Robert Murray and Lisa Dozier Shacket are producing.
Lupita Nyong'o, Katrina Lenk, Jelani Alladin, and more were on hand to celebrate the October 31 opening night of Michael R. Jackson and Anna K. Jacobs' new musical.
