Photo Features Park Playhouse Breaks Down How They Designed the Set for Their Outdoor Ragtime Washington Park’s Albany Medical Center Stage at the Lakehouse has been transformed for the Ahrens and Flaherty musical.

Albany’s Park Playhouse kicked off their 2017 season with a free, outdoor staging of Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens, and Terrence McNally’s musical, Ragtime. The production plays Washington Park’s outdoor amphitheater June 29 through July 29 with direction by Michael LoPorto.

The Playhouse describes the show as, “a powerful portrait of America”, as unique as it is diverse—“drawing upon many musical styles from the ragtime rhythms of Harlem and Tin Pan Alley to the klezmer of the Lower East Side, from bold brass band marches to delicate waltzes, from up-tempo banjo tunes to period parlor songs and expansive anthems.”

All of this is reflected in the set design of the show, from sultry silhouettes to light and airy frames that leave room for the imagination.
