Developing musical Madame Clicquot is holding invite-only industry readings in New York City October 24 and 25. The presentations are being given in advance of the musical's previously announced world premiere production, to be staged at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera in summer 2025.
The performing company includes Victoria Frings (An Enemy of the People) as Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, Roe Hartrampf (Diana the Musical) as François Clicquot, Paolo Montalban (Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella) as Louis Bohne, Kai An Chee as Geneviéve, Jonathan Christopher (Sweeney Todd) as Jean-Remy Moët, Nick Laughlin as Napoleon Bonaparte, Kimberly Immanuel (Back to the Future) as Clementine Ponsardin, Rob Richardson (Jekyll & Hyde) as Phillipe Clicquot, Neal Young as Nicolas Ponsardin, Antonia “Nia” Holderied as Young Barbe-Nicole/Mentine, and Nicolas “Nic” Sanchez as Young François, along with Gillian Bell, Dalton Bertolone, Devin Cortez (Empire), Lauren Drewello, Robert H. Fowler (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), Kalonjee Gallimore (A Beautiful Noise), Chelsea Hooker, Ian Laudano, Patricia Phillips (Phantom of the Opera, Kinky Boots), Eric Sorrels, Santina Umbach (Mamma Mia!), and Brooke Wexler.
Casting for the upcoming world premiere bow has not yet been announced.
The work tells the story of Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin and her journey revolutionizing the world of Champagne during the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars. Written by Lisette Glodowski and Richard C. Walter, the musical released a studio album in 2023.
Directed and choreographed by Laurie Glodowski, the industry presentation will also feature music direction by Kenneth Gartman, orchestrations and arrangements by Frank Galgano and Matt Castle, costume design by Janet Campbell, projection design by Mark Ciglar, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, and sound design by Mike Tracey.
Laurie Glodowski is producing, alongside Galgano, Anita Waxman, and Steven Johnson. Joely Zuker is associate producer.
