Jade Stice, actor and original Broadway cast member of Miss Saigon, has died in a hiking accident, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports. She was 53 years old.

Ms. Stice made her Broadway debut in 1991 as an ensemble member in Miss Saigon. She was also a company member of the first national tour of Jekyll & Hyde. An Oahu native, Ms. Stice moved back to Hawaii after 15 years working in New York, and continued to perform locally.

Ms. Stice and her sister, Dr. Ligaya Stice, co-founded the I'm a Bright Kid Foundation in honor of her former musical theatre teacher Ron Bright. The foundation worked to share Bright's legacy through the performing arts and arts education for new generations.

Lea Salonga, who originated the role of Kim in the musical, shared a tribute to Ms. Stice on Facebook. "Shocked and saddened upon hearing the news that one of our original company members of Miss Saigon passed away," Salonga wrote. "Sending my sincerest condolences to her family. Rest in peace, Jade Stice. Such beauty, vivaciousness, and talent."

Ms. Stice is survived by her three children, her sister Ligaya Stice, and her sister Paraluman Stice-Durkin.
