A Sherlock Carol, the holiday mystery from playwright Mark Shanahan, returns to Off-Broadway's New World Stages November 21 for a six-week limited engagement through January 1, 2023. Originally directed by Shanahan, the production will officially open November 28.

Drew McVety (Billy Elliot) returns as the titular sleuth with Allen Gilmore (The School for Scandal) joining the company as Scrooge. Also new to the cast is Joanna Carpenter (Actors Theater of Louisville’s A Christmas Carol), who joins returning company members Dan Domingues (The Tempest), Tony nominee Isabel Keating (The Boy From Oz), Mark Price (Mary Poppins), and understudies Joe Delafield (Tartuffe), Alexandra Kopko (Peter and the Starcatcher), and Byron St. Cyr (My Fair Lady national tour).

Charles Dickens and Arthur Conan Doyle collide in A Sherlock Carol when a grown-up Tiny Tim turns to Sherlock Holmes to solve the peculiar death of Ebenezer Scrooge. The mystery debuted at New World Stages in 2021. A London production plays the Marylebone Theatre through January 7, 2023.

“We are elated to continue the new holiday tradition of A Sherlock Carol this festive season,” producers Laura Z. Barket, Raymond Bokhour, Drew McVety, and Fred Lassen said in an earlier statement. “In addition to the New York and London productions, theatres across the country can bring this brand-new theatrical blend of Dickens and Doyle to their own communities now that the show is available for licensing through Broadway Licensing.”

With restaging by Jen Waldman (Wicked, Titanic), the show features scenic design by Tony nominee Anna Louizos, costume design by Tony winner Linda Cho, lighting design by Obie winner Rui Rita, original music and sound design by Tony nominee John Gromada, and hair and wig design by Emmy nominee Charles G. LaPointe.
