As previously reported, the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center will honor its founder, George C. White, with the 21st Monte Cristo Award at the organization's spring gala April 11 at New York City's Gotham Hall.
The evening will feature performances and/or remarks by the newly announced Norm Lewis, Heidi Blickenstaff, Joshua Henry, Tom Kitt, Stephanie D’Abruzzo, Tyler Bunch, Scott Richards, Paulette Haupt, and Ellie Ellsworth.
Oscar winner Michael Douglas, a previous recipient of the Monte Cristo Award, will present White with this year's award, given annually to a theatre artist whose career exemplifies Eugene O'Neill's "pioneering spirit, unceasing artistic commitment, and excellence."
White founded the O'Neill in 1964 and served for 37 years as president of the O’Neill and chairman of its Board of Trustees. Programs at the O'Neill include the National Playwrights Conference, National Music Theater Conference, National Critics Institute, National Puppetry Conference, Cabaret & Performance Conference, and National Theater Institute.
