Casting has been revealed for the stage adaptation of Safety Not Guaranteed at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). Based on Derek Connolly's 2012 film, the work features music and lyrics by Ryan Miller, with a book by Nick Blaemire. Performances begin September 17 at the BAM Harvey Theater for a limited engagement through October 20.

Nkeki Obi-Melekwe and Taylor Trensch will lead the cast as Darius and Kenneth, respectively. They will be joined by Pomme Koch as Jeff, Rohan Kymal as Arnau, Ashley Pérez Flanagan as Liz, and John-Michael Lyles as Tristan. Casting is by Taylor Williams.

Lee Sunday Evans (Home) will direct. Safety Not Guaranteed follows Darius, a journalist who is assigned to report on a local classified ad offering the opportunity to go back in time, and the complicated relationship that ensues.

"I've been a fan of the film for years and always thought it could work as a musical, but the way it's come together has been a series of serendipitous moments you can't plan," Blaemire said in a statement. "Chance meetings with Ryan Miller and Peter Saraf and a lunch with Lee Sunday Evans sparked fast friendships and playful collaborations, and this wonderful cast and band have elevated the show beyond my wildest dreams. They're all at the top of their game, and to be performing in the BAM Harvey, my favorite theatre in the world, is a dream come true. I can't wait to show New York what we've made."

The production will feature set design by Krit Robinson, costume design by Sarita Fellows, lighting design by Obie winner Reza Behjat, and sound design by Tony nominee Drew Levy. The creative team also includes illusionist Steve Cuffio, fight director Drew Leary, stage manager Alyssa K. "AK" Howard, and assistant stage manager Alfredo Macias
