Tony-winning The Band's Visit writers David Yazbek and Itamar Moses have teamed up with Erik Della Penna, a songwriter and frequently a pit guitarist for Yazbek musicals, on Dead Outlaw, described as "a new theatre piece." The work will receive a premiere presentation at New York City cabaret venue Feinstein's/54 Below March 14.

Based on a true story, the musical centers on Elmer McCurdy, a turn-of-the-century outlaw killed by a sheriff's posse only to find new life—for his remains, that is—as a traveling side-show attraction.

Yazbek and Penna have collaborated on 14 news songs, with Moses providing the book. The project is the brainchild of Yazbek, who reportedly has been fascinated with the story for three decades.
