Regional News National Asian American Theatre Company Partners With Regional Theatres People's Light and TheatreSquared

The partnership with the Pennsylvania and Arkansas (respectively) companies aims to expand representation of Asian American artists nationally.

The National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO) has partnered with two more regional theatres— TheatreSquared based in Fayetteville, Arkansas and People's Light in Malvern, Pennsylvania—as part of their ongoing effort to expand Asian American representation in theatres across the nation.

NAATCO has previously partnered with New York City's SoHo Rep and Connecticutt's Long Wharf Theatre. NAATCO will take the Off-Broadway stage this summer with their production of Isabel by reid tang, a piece the company co-commissioned with Long Wharf. It will play the Abrons Arts Center in June and July, with official performance dates, cast, and additional information to be revealed shortly.

NAATCO's four-theatre partnership is led by the NAATCO National Partnership Project, which aims to work with theatres nationwide to develop, improve, and implement local strategies including Asian-American theatre artists, technicians, and administrators.

"Not just a production-related partnership, the NNPP is about bringing about change in our partners’ practices so that the inclusion of Asian American programming is organic and permanent. We kick off our partnerships by working together on a production, the better to get to know each other and to familiarize each other with our thinking and operating processes...In partnership, we mean to change the world!” said NAATCO co-founder and actor-manager Mia Katigbak in a statement.
