Continuing with the "mufti" theme, the musical is receiving a pared-down, book-in-hand concert staging format at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s. The 1972 Tony-nominated Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope is playing through March 6, helmed by Leslie Dockery, with musical direction by William Foster McDaniel. Conceived by Vinnette Carroll, it features a book, music and lyrics by Micki Grant. The show, which brings to light the African-American experience, is a vibrant mixture of gospel, jazz, funk, soul, calypso and soft rock. It will officially open Feb. 28.

The cast features Jelani Alladin, Darilyn Castillo, Doug Eskew, Tina Fabrique, Marva Hicks, Devin L. Roberts, Raun Ruffin and Debra Walton.

The second show in the series, Starting Here, Starting Now, will play March 12-20. The show features music by David Shire, with lyrics and direction by Richard Maltby, Jr. The York bills the musical as a "bold, extroverted revue" that examines romantic relationships.

Single tickets, starting at $45, can be purchased by visiting YorkTheatre.org or by calling (212) 935-5820.
